How it works

Turn caregiver training from a task into a meaningful learning experience.

SOV gives BCBAs a guided framework to teach, connect, and empower families without spending hours creating materials.

Step 1: Identify the Family’s Starting Point

Meet families where they are.

Every family enters with different needs, questions, and challenges.

Use the SOV roadmap to identify the right learning path:

Examples:

  • “Why is my child doing this?” → Learning unit: Unmet needs

  • “How do I help during big emotions?” → Learning unit: Managing big emotions

  • “How do I get my child to communicate?” → Learning unit: Language & Communication

Goal: Start with what matters most to the family.

Step 2: Choose a Learning Unit

Teach the concept families need next.

Select from SOV learning units designed around real caregiver challenges.

Examples:

  1. How Learning Occurs

  2. Reinforcement

  3. ABCs & Functions of Behavior

  4. Language Communication

  5. Sensory Regulation

  6. Modeling

  7. Managing Big Emotions

Each unit includes caregiver-friendly video lessons, BCBA guidance, reflection questions, and practical tools.

Step 3: Learn Together

Create shared understanding.

The BCBA and caregiver engage with the same content.

Instead of “Here is a strategy. Try this,” SOV helps create “Let’s understand why this works and how it fits your child.”

Caregivers build confidence, understanding, and problem-solving skills.

Step 4: Apply It to Real Life

Move from learning → doing.

Each unit supports caregivers in applying strategies through:

✔ guided discussion
✔ real-life examples
✔ home practice
✔ reflection activities
✔ individualized application

The BCBA remains the clinical guide. SOV provides the structure.

Step 5: Track Progress & Build Independence

Help families grow beyond therapy.

Caregiver training becomes a continuous process: Understand → Practice → Adjust → Grow

Over time, families develop:

  • stronger communication

  • more confidence

  • improved consistency

  • greater independence in supporting their child
